Ace Yo' Base

The secret to flawless skin is being able to ace your base. I am by no means an expert, but I have a number of products on rotation in my quest for beautiful skin. I’m willing to scour shelves and delve deep into bargain bins to find the perfect foundation! This new segment is basically a showcase for the various foundations and bases I use and their pros & cons.

1. Rimmel Match Perfect in 100 Ivory($17.95 for 30ml) – This is my favourite drugstore foundation. I started using it a while ago but I bought a shade that was much to dark for me so I ended up giving it to my mum instead. I repurchased a more appropriate shade at Priceline and I am loving it! It is quite a runny liquid formula but it smells very pretty (slightly floral) and is extremely easy to blend. I apply using my Kit Cosmetics Beauty Blender and have found that Match Perfect gives a flawless, dewy finish. It lasts quite well through the day too, I find myself only very slightly shiny by the end of the day. Very much in love with this foundation!

2. Tony Moly Luminous Pure Aura CC Cream($19.00 for 50ml) – I took a complete gamble on this after discovering it on a Korean beauty website called Kpoptown. They have a really great range of skincare and makeup products. If you’re after something a bit different, go and check them out (and no, this is not sponsored advertising, I just really like them!). So the Aura CC Cream is a pretty cool piece of skincare wizardry. It comes out white and contains magical colour capsules that change to match your skin colour as you blend it in. It’s also SPF 30+ (bonus) but I find it does get a bit shiny throughout the day, so you may need a powder to finish the look.

3. Clinique Age Defence BB Cream ($37.00 USD from Amazon) – I am so sad that this product isn’t available in Australia (yet…they do have a CC Cream), I picked it up on my last trip to England. The other downside is that it only comes in 4 shades (seriously, 4 shades, Clinique?). I had no idea that Clinique even did a BB Cream and but I know that their foundations are pretty amazing so I was pretty happy to find this BB. Like the Tony Moly CC Cream, it’s SPF 30+ and is a very lightweight formula that provides a decent coverage. I’m not too fussed about the age defence part, but it’s never too early to start!

From L-R: Rimmel Match Perfect, Aura CC Cream & Clinique BB Cream, to the right of each sample is the blended out version.
4. Nars Powder Foundation in Fiji (from $65.00) – Nars, oh Nars! This is my absolute favourite powder foundation. I had actually forgotten all about it for a while and recently found it lurking in the back of my makeup drawer and haven’t looked back. I hit pan about a month ago so it’s almost time for a new one (hurrah!). This is a beautiful powder, it’s easy to build up from a light to medium coverage, it blends like a dream and you can either use it as a foundation on its own or as a finishing powder. It also has a little flip up compartment with a makeup sponge for quick touch ups. I really do love this powder, the wonderful Mecca Maxima makeup lady was 100% spot on recommending this one. On a side note, the staff at Mecca Maxima extremely helpful and will take the time to fit you with the best product for your skin type. I’ve never gone wrong with them.

I hope I’ve given you a few ideas for some excellent base products, I would love you hear what your top base acing products are.

Stay beautiful!

Oh, such a shame! I hate it when products that I love don't work for other people :( The Nars is the best, I bought a new one the other day. Thanks for the tag!
