Battle of the Lip Creams

Isn’t is funny how certain products burst onto the market and all of a sudden everyone is bringing out a version? At the moment, every brand seems to have some variety of lip cream out and it’s hard to know which are fabulous and which ones are fails. I’m not a huge fan of lip creams, I find them a lot messier than regular lipsticks (goddamn doe foot applicators!) but they do tend to have amazing pigmentation. I’ve picked a two lip creams from my collection to go head to head in an epic Battle of the Lip Creams!
Contender 1 – Australis Velourlips Matte Lip Cream $9.95 for 10ml

These have been hailed as the Holy Grail of lip creams and the best dupe out there for the Lime Crime Velvetines. As I personally don’t own a Velvetine, I can’t comment but I have a definite love-hate relationship with these. I LOVE the shades, which are all named after a famous destinations and are amazingly well pigmented and the delicious fruity scent BUT I find them so messy to apply and I hate the consistency once they’ve dried. I feel like they highlight every imperfection on my lips, no matter how much prep I put in beforehand. I’ve heard that the new release formulas are much better consistency-wise but I’ve been burned before baby! They two shades I own are Ma-Li-Boo (neon pink) and Ny-Cee(bright red) and I picked them specifically because of their amazing colours so I always feel a bit disappointed that I don’t really wear them much because I don’t like the formula.

Contender 2 – Boe Beauty Matte Lip Cream $2.00 for 2.5g

If you’ve been reading my blog for any length of time, you’ll know how much of a Boe Beauty advocate I am! The Lip Creams are another product that you can add to the completely-amazing-and-I-can’t-believe-they’re-only-$2 basket. The formula is quite creamy and although they are a matte cream, I would say it’s definitely a semi-matte finish. They don’t leave my lips as dry as the Velourlips and are a little easier and less messy to apply, which I think is due to the not quite as thick formula. I have the shades Shock Pink (berry toned pink with shimmer) and Pillarbox (bright red) and find both very wearable. These also have a light floral scent but it’s nothing too over-the-top or offensive.

And the winner is ……. BOE BEAUTY MATTE LIP CREAMS!

Although I think that the pigmentation on the Velourlips is much deeper and longer-lasting, I just can’t deal with the formula. The Velourlips do have a true matte finish whereas the Boe Beauty versions are more semi-matte to satin but the formula of the Boe Beauty Lip Creams is just so much more wearable and the pigmentation is still pretty damn good. The creamy formula is definitely a winner for me!

Do you agree with my verdict in the Battle of the Lip Creams?

  3. The Boe Beauty ones are much less drying than the Velourlips and even if you don't like them, at least you don't end up spending a fortune on something you don't even like!

  4. I'm love the pigmentation on the Velourlips but they are just so difficult to work with! I much prefer the Boe Beauty ones for general wearability. Have you tried the new release of the Velourlips?

  5. True, and that's why I'll definitely picking them up :)

  6. How funny! The reason I don't like the Boe Beauty ones would be because of the formula! I find that they slide around and smudge on me, whereas the Australis ones are gorgeous and stay put. A little drying, but no more than what I'd expect.

  7. That is quite funny! But just goes to show that not everyone is going to love the same product. I just find the Velourlips way too drying and I hate that every little imperfection shows up! Do you have any tips for using them?

  8. I make sure that my lips are well buffed, and therefore smooth, prior to popping the Velourlips on. Beyond that, nothing really, I don't think.

  9. I do a lot of lip prep before hand and I just can't seem to get them to work for me! Ah well, I'm happy knowing that there are people out there they they do work for :)
